The Los Angeles Lakers have fired Joey and Jesse Buss, longtime executives and brothers of team governor Jeanie Buss, as part of a sweeping front office reorganization, according to ESPN. Several scouting staff members, including Sean Buss, were also dismissed.
The Buss brothers, key figures in scouting for the past two decades, helped discover talents like Austin Reaves, Alex Caruso, and Kyle Kuzma. “We’re honored to have been part of this organization for 20 seasons,” they said, adding, “Our dad wanted us to run basketball operations, but Jeanie has chosen otherwise.”
The move follows the $10 billion sale of the Lakers’ majority stake to Mark Walter, approved last month. Joey and Jesse will retain minority ownership and continue their work through Buss Sports Capital.
