Klay Thompson gave up approximately $9.8 million to secure a buyout from the Dallas Mavericks. The veteran was waived Friday and is expected to clear waivers Sunday.

Once he becomes a free agent, Thompson is expected to sign a two-year, $13 million contract with the Miami Heat. According to Mike Scotto of HoopsHype, the move will leave Thompson with an estimated net loss of roughly $3.5 million.

Thompson was scheduled to earn $17.5 million this season. The agreement will leave Dallas more than $12 million below the luxury tax and over $19 million below its first-apron hard cap.
