In an interview with The Athletic, Kevin Durant, a professional basketball player currently playing for his fourth NBA team, said that he no longer cares about his legacy. According to Durant, “I don’t care about legacy… It just becomes too much of a focus on other people. What’s he done, what’s he done? Comparisons.” He added that he used to want to carve out a space in the game for himself that people would remember, but he doesn’t feel that way anymore.

Durant also mentioned that after he left the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors, he realized that many people would not view his career logically. He said, “When it comes to me, people are not going to think in a logical way or simply look at what I’ve done and say that’s it. They gotta add a narrative to it, they gotta push something to discredit me.” He added that people often move the goalpost for him and expect the most out of him, and if he doesn’t reach it, he’s seen as a failure.
