Kawhi Leonard reportedly had several opportunities before choosing to return to the Toronto Raptors. According to Shams Charania, the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves were among the teams interested in trading for him.
Both franchises were also prepared to discuss a contract extension with Leonard, who had only one season remaining on his deal. That allowed the veteran forward to steer the market toward his preferred destination.
Charania described the Toronto decision as a “legacy play” for Leonard. The move reunites him with the franchise he led to its first NBA championship in 2019.
