Karl-Anthony Towns “very disappointed” by Knicks’ decision to pause extension talks

Karl-Anthony Towns says he is “very disappointed” after the Knicks paused extension talks until later in the season

Karl-Anthony Towns has expressed his frustration after the Knicks decided to postpone contract extension talks until later in the season. The New York big man said the move caught him by surprise.

“It was news to me,” Towns said. “Very disappointed, to say the least. Let’s state the obvious: It’s a business, but there is business on the court for us to handle.” Towns is eligible for a four-year, $276 million extension, while New York’s offer has reportedly been around $200 million total.

The next key date is tied to his $61 million player option for next season. Towns must decline it by October 19 to remain eligible to negotiate during the season; otherwise, the Knicks cannot legally discuss an extension with him until after the season.
