The early-season dynamic between Karl-Anthony Towns and head coach Mike Brown has been one of the most closely watched storylines surrounding the New York Knicks this season.
Back in October, Towns appeared uncertain about Brown’s offensive system, offering candid remarks that hinted at mixed feelings.
“Honestly, I don’t know… I don’t know,” Towns said at the time. “But we’re figuring it out. It’s just different. It’s different.”
However, according to ESPN insider Brian Windhorst, any early tension between the two has since eased, and their working relationship is now on solid footing.
“Early on there was some friction with Karl Towns and his shots are down,” Windhorst said. “He’s being asked to do a little bit more grunt work. But he’s still having an excellent season, almost certainly going to be an All-Star.”
Towns is currently averaging 22 points and 12 rebounds per game, production that has helped stabilize the Knicks while adjusting to Brown’s system.
“He and Mike Brown are in a good place right now from what I’m told,” Windhorst added. “This is just a December 30th check-in, but everything is good on that front.”
New York has enjoyed a strong start to the season, sitting second in the Eastern Conference behind the Detroit Pistons, while also capturing the NBA Cup.
