Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic expressed his frustration with his diminished role and lack of communication with coach Mike Budenholzer. “We don’t have a relationship,” Nurkic told The Arizona Republic. “I’m just trying to stay professional, work hard, and be ready for whatever happens.”
Nurkic, who averaged 8.6 points and 9.2 rebounds this season, has been benched since Jan. 7. Budenholzer replaced him in the starting lineup with Mason Plumlee and later Nick Richards, who has impressed with recent performances, including a 20-point, 19-rebound game.
Budenholzer responded to Nurkic’s remarks, acknowledging the challenge of managing rotations. “We’re gonna go with who gives us the best chance. You’ve gotta earn your minutes,” he said. Despite the situation, Nurkic believes he will remain with the Suns past the Feb. 6 trade deadline but is ready for any outcome.
“It was what it is. Life is not fair,” Nurkic added.
