According to Anthony Slater, restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga has indicated a preference for accepting the $7.9 million qualifying offer over the contract proposals made so far by the Golden State Warriors.
The team had hoped to convince the forward to sign a two-year deal with a team option worth around $45 million, which would require him to waive his No Trade Clause. While such a contract would be relatively easy to move during the season, Kuminga reportedly considered it too “team-friendly.”
The player’s representatives unsuccessfully pushed for a three-year deal worth $82 million.
The situation has remained at a standstill for roughly two weeks.
