There are great players. There are Maccabi players. And then there are club legends. John DiBartolomeo belongs in that final category. Maccabi Tel Aviv has officially announced a two-year contract extension for its longtime captain, keeping him with the club through 2028.
An energetic guard, relentless competitor and respected leader on and off the court, DiBartolomeo will become the longest-serving captain in Maccabi Tel Aviv history. Appointed captain in January 2018, he will surpass Doron Jamchi’s record of eight years in the role. The most recent Israeli League championship marked his seventh title wearing the yellow-and-blue jersey.
Club president Shimon Mizrahi said: “John DiBartolomeo’s extension is another step in our commitment to maintaining continuity with our players, especially our team captain. By the end of this contract, he will have spent 11 seasons with Maccabi, and that is a great source of pride for our club.”
Head coach Oded Kattash added: “John has been an integral part of Maccabi Tel Aviv for many years and represents everything this club stands for. Professionalism, commitment, leadership and giving 100 percent in every practice and every game make him a central figure in our locker room and a role model for everyone. Continuity is part of Maccabi’s identity, and John embodies it better than anyone.”
After signing the extension, DiBartolomeo said: “Maccabi has been my home for many years, and I am proud and grateful to continue this journey. Wearing this jersey and serving as captain is a responsibility I never take for granted.”
He concluded: “I want to thank the club, the ownership, the coaching staff, my teammates and, above all, our incredible fans for their trust and support. I’m excited for what lies ahead, and I will continue giving everything I have every single day to help Maccabi compete for every title.”
