The Boston Celtics coach won the award after leading his team to 56 wins and the No. 2 seed in the East despite Jayson Tatum missing most of the season

Joe Mazzulla has been named 2025-26 NBA Coach of the Year. The Boston Celtics head coach led Boston to 56 wins and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference despite Jayson Tatum missing most of the season with a torn Achilles.

Mazzulla received 62 first-place votes and 392 total points, finishing ahead of J.B. Bickerstaff of the Detroit Pistons and Mitch Johnson of the San Antonio Spurs. At 37, he is the youngest winner of the award since Phil Johnson in 1975.

“The process towards a championship is the No. 1 goal,” Mazzulla said, while also crediting his players, staff and the entire organization. He becomes the fourth Celtics coach to win the award, joining Red Auerbach, Tommy Heinsohn and Bill Fitch.
