JL Bourg has announced its decision to withdraw from participating in next season’s EuroLeague, a spot earned on the court thanks to its EuroCup triumph.
After several ambitious seasons filled with strong sporting achievements, JL Bourg reached the pinnacle of European basketball by winning the Eurocup title on Tuesday, April 28th. Following this success, the club carried out extensive evaluations regarding a potential move to the EuroLeague. These assessments included structural considerations, as well as all possible options to offer Bourg-en-Bresse fans a form of crowning achievement on Europe’s biggest stage.
However, this ambition could not be pursued at any cost, and it was essential not to jeopardize everything the club has built step by step over the years.
After assessing the challenges involved in the operation — from financial, organizational, and human perspectives — a decision was made in agreement with Euroleague Basketball. Pending formal approval from the Board of Directors and the General Assembly of ECA (Euroleague Commercial Assets), JL Bourg will compete in the EuroCup for the next three seasons, with an option for an additional two years, thereby confirming the club’s strong commitment and growth ambitions within the European basketball landscape.
The decision to continue together in a competition the club will contest for a seventh consecutive season next year represents a sign of mutual trust between JL Bourg and Euroleague Basketball. This long-term agreement is also a recognition of the work carried out over the years and the sporting progress the club has made in recent seasons.
