JJ Redick is setting the bar high for the revamped Lakers built around Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves. The Los Angeles coach believes the group can develop into a championship-level team this season.
“I’m confident we’re gonna develop as a team into a championship-level team — this year,” Redick said, later telling The Athletic that his confidence comes from what he has seen throughout minicamp and the offseason. “I’ve watched these guys play. I’ve played against these guys, or coached against these guys. I don’t care about the perception of us. We’re on our own path.”
Redick also explained why he believes the roster fits better than in his first two seasons: “We have depth, multiple ballhandlers besides Luka and AR, more shooting, more volume shooting, an elite rim protector and great wing defenders.” Still, he added: “You don’t become a championship team in late September. You have to become one throughout the season.”
