Jeremy Sochan: “Scoring Is Easier in the NBA Than in Europe — And That’s Why I Chose Poland”

Jeremy Sochan shared candid thoughts on two widely discussed topics: the difference between scoring in the NBA and European basketball, and his decision to represent Poland at the international level instead of Great Britain.

Asked about comments made by stars such as Luka Dončić, Lauri Markkanen, and Nikola Jokić—all of whom have said scoring is easier in the NBA than in Europe—Sochan agreed with that assessment.

“I think so,” Sochan said. “In the NBA, I don’t want to say it’s open because everyone’s so athletic, but you have three-second defensive calls. You have different areas you can’t touch and stuff. So it’s easier. It’s easier for sure.”

However, the San Antonio Spurs forward was careful to add that elite skill is still required to succeed.

“But again, you still need to be very talented to score in this league,” he added.

Sochan also addressed his international career choice, explaining why he ultimately committed to Poland rather than United Kingdom.

“I’m going to be honest,” Sochan said. “I was playing for both teams. I had a great tournament with England and a good one with Poland. You’ve got to balance it out.”

According to Sochan, the deciding factor was opportunity.

“At the time, I had way more opportunities with Poland—games, training camps, testing, exposure to other European clubs and countries. It was on a different level,” he explained. “With Poland, all the camps were free, flights were free. With England, it’s a struggle.”
