Jeanie Buss’ future as governor of the Los Angeles Lakers remains uncertain. She is attempting to prevent her five siblings from selling the 17.8% stake still held by the family trust.
NBA rules require a governor to own at least 15% of a franchise. If the family’s remaining shares are sold, Buss could therefore lose her position, while acquiring additional equity appears difficult.
According to Buss’ court petition, minority owners Patrick Soon-Shiong and Ed Roski Jr., who collectively hold approximately 7%, do not intend to sell and support her leadership. However, Joshua Kushner is reportedly expected to become governor once the proposed acquisition is completed.
