Jayson Tatum reveals he initially wanted to be drafted by Phoenix, not Boston

The Celtics were already the No. 1 team in the East so Tatum thought he wasn't going to play

In the latest episode of the All The Smoke podcast with former NBA players Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, Jayson Tatum revealed an interesting story about his pre-draft process. The All-Star forward said he didn’t want the Celtics to select him. He actually wanted to play for Phoenix instead, as he had a great meeting with the Suns former coach Earl Watson.

“[The Celtics] were the No. 1 team in the East, they had Isaiah Thomas, Al Horford, [Marcus] Smart, [Jaylen Brown], [Jae] Crowder… I’m like, ‘I’m not gonna play, I’m trying to get buckets!’… But in the end everything worked out,” Tatum said.
