Jaylen Brown could see his No. 7 jersey retired by the Boston Celtics. According to Avery Hill of the Boston Globe, Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens believes there is a strong likelihood that Brown’s number will eventually be raised to the rafters at TD Garden.

Brown spent 10 seasons with Boston, earning multiple All-Star and All-NBA selections while playing a key role in the Celtics’ 2024 NBA championship run, when he was also named Finals MVP.

Stevens discussed the difficult decisions that come with running an NBA franchise and specifically referenced Brown’s trade.

“We ultimately decide to trade Jaylen, whose numbers will likely go up in the rafters in Boston. Not fun,” Stevens said.

The comments underline how highly the Celtics continue to regard Brown’s contribution to the franchise, despite the relationship between the two sides deteriorating before his departure.

Jaylen Brown and the 2024 NBA championship

Brown was one of the key figures in Boston’s run to the 2024 NBA championship, helping the Celtics win their first title in 16 years.

During his Celtics career, Brown averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while earning multiple All-Star and All-NBA honors.

He was also an MVP candidate during the 2025-26 season.

Brown could join Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett

Retiring Brown’s No. 7 jersey would place him alongside some of the most important players in Celtics history.

Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett both had their jerseys retired by Boston after winning an NBA championship with the franchise. Brown could therefore become the latest major Celtics star to receive the same honor.

After 10 seasons in Boston, Brown is now a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.

The former Celtics star will look to match or surpass the success he achieved in Boston and pursue another NBA championship with Philadelphia.
