Javonte Green Reaches Buyout with Pelicans, Expected to Join Cavs

The versatile wing will strengthen Cleveland’s rotation for the playoff push

According to Shams Charania, Javonte Green has agreed to a buyout with the New Orleans Pelicans and is set to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers after clearing waivers.

The Eastern Conference-leading Cavs add much-needed wing depth, especially after acquiring De’Andre Hunter from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Caris LeVert and Georges Niang. Green’s defensive versatility makes him a valuable asset, particularly in matchups against elite wings like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Before the All-Star Break, Green logged a season-high 34 minutes, contributing 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 assists in an overtime win against Sacramento. This season, he’s averaging 5.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals.

Cleveland will be Green’s fourth NBA team in his six-year career.
