Surne Bilbao Basket has announced a contract extension for Jaume Ponsarnau through 2029, confirming its desire to keep continuity on the bench after a journey that started in the summer of 2022. Since then, the coach from Tárrega has reached 189 games in charge, becoming the second coach with the most games in club history behind only Txus Vidorreta.
The high point of his tenure came last season with the FIBA Europe Cup title, the first trophy in Bilbao Basket history and the first European title won by a professional team from the region. According to the club, Ponsarnau’s work has brought stability, consistency and the achievement of the team’s sporting goals year after year.
In its official statement, the club also praised his human and coaching qualities, especially his daily work, his development of young players and his ability to embody the identity and values of Bilbao Basket. For that reason, the club sees Ponsarnau as the right person to lead its next phase of sporting and institutional growth.
