Projected top-3 pick James Wiseman spoke to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski about his decision to leave Memphis after the NCAA gave him a 12-game suspension that included repayment of $11,500.
“I felt it was unfair because they notified and alerted me at the last minute. Coach Penny told me about it. I was really down and shocked. When I got suspended for 12 games and had to pay back the money, that was kind of surreal. I didn’t really have any knowledge of [the violation] or all the ramifications behind it.”
“I had to get [the money] on my own, and that was pretty impossible because I didn’t have the money. I was just a regular college student.”
