Jalen Duren has until October 1 to decide whether to accept the contract extension offered by the Detroit Pistons. The alternative would be to sign the $9.6 million Qualifying Offer and enter next offseason as an unrestricted free agent, an option the big man is reportedly seriously considering.
According to The Athletic, extension talks have recently stalled, with Detroit currently offering a five-year, $190 million deal. Duren, who recently saw the Houston Rockets give Amen Thompson a five-year, $208 million extension, is seeking at least $200 million.
While the two players have different roles and are in different situations, Duren believes he deserves a comparable deal after earning a spot on the All-NBA Third Team.
The Pistons are currently around $46 million below the Luxury Tax threshold, but Trajan Langdon’s front office will also soon have to address Ausar Thompson’s extension.
