Jalen Brunson once again proved why he’s the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year. With the score tied and just over five seconds on the clock, he shook off Ausar Thompson and drilled a step-back three-pointer to lift the New York Knicks to a 116-113 win over the Detroit Pistons, clinching the first-round series 4-2.
Brunson finished with 40 points, his fifth 30+ game of the series, and sealed his latest playoff masterpiece. “I got some space, let it fly,” he said postgame. “If it missed, we’d go to overtime — but it didn’t.” Coach Tom Thibodeau praised his guard: “He’s at his best when his best is needed.”
Next up for New York: a daunting matchup with the defending champion Boston Celtics. The road gets tougher, but with Brunson in crunch time, the Knicks always have a chance.
