Jaka Lakovic has become the center of growing speculation in Spain, with local media and basketball rumor accounts suggesting that the coach could even consider stepping down if he believed it would help the team. For now, however, the story remains in the rumor stage: there has been no official club statement confirming any resignation.
The background, though, is clearly tense. Just a few days ago, Lakovic publicly took full responsibility for Gran Canaria’s European elimination, calling it one of the hardest defeats and saying: “The responsibility is mine, and mine alone.” That was already a strong sign of personal pressure around the situation.
At the same time, club president Sitapha Savané told EFE that as long as he keeps seeing Lakovic with strength, the team has a better chance, which suggests that the key issue is also the coach’s ability to keep leading in such a difficult moment. The next few hours may therefore be important, but there is still no official split as of now.
