Italian referee Lamonica attacked and injured after Panathinaikos-Barcelona

The taxi used by the referee has been attacked by strangers on route to the hotel after the game.

Italian referee Luigi Lamonica has been injured after an attack in Athens on the taxi on which he was travelling, with the other officials of the match between Panathinaikos and Barcelona.

The vehicle was attacked by unknown individuals on a motorbike on Kifissia Avenue, about 5km from OAKA, as reported by Sport24. Those individuals smashed the rear window of the taxi, injuring Lamonica, who was brought to the hospital and, after being medicated, to his hotel escorted by the police. The three officials of yesterday’s game were travelling with former referee and Euroleague official Nikos Pitsilkas.
