Naz Reid did not return after halftime in the Charlotte Hornets’ 97-89 loss to Detroit. Coach Charles Lee gave a clear explanation for the decision, saying Reid “didn’t meet our standards in the first half.”
Reid started the game and finished with seven points in 13 minutes, shooting 2-of-6 from the field. “Unfortunately, he didn’t meet our standards in the first half, and at halftime we made the decision that he wouldn’t play in the second half,” Lee said. “I look forward to him meeting those standards come next game.”
The situation is notable because Reid was one of the key pieces Charlotte received in the trade that sent LaMelo Ball to Minnesota. The Hornets also received an unprotected 2033 first-round pick, three second-rounders and several future pick swaps. Reid is in the second year of the five-year, $125 million deal he signed with the Timberwolves.
