After missing out on the opportunity to bring LeBron James back to Florida, the Miami Heat continue to monitor the free-agent market. According to the Miami Herald, the franchise has been in contact with DeMar DeRozan’s representatives, but there is currently no agreement in place, with the front office preferring to wait and see how the market develops before using one of the three remaining roster spots.
DeRozan, coming off a season in which he averaged 18.4 points, 4.1 assists and 2.1 rebounds with the Sacramento Kings, is a player Miami appreciates, but he is also drawing interest from other teams and is unlikely to wait too long for a decision from the Heat.
The franchise’s true priority, however, remains Klay Thompson. The veteran guard is still under contract with the Dallas Mavericks, who do not currently appear interested in releasing him through a buyout, preferring a potential trade scenario instead. Miami continues to hope that an opportunity could emerge to acquire the four-time NBA champion, while keeping the remaining $8 million in exception money available.
The Heat have also held conversations with Bradley Beal’s camp, but that possibility has taken a back seat while the organization waits for developments regarding Thompson. Miami is also looking to add another big man to the roster, although there are currently no particularly appealing options available on the market.
