Hapoel Tel Aviv have reportedly been fined a total of €5 million by the EuroLeague, according to YNET and reporting relayed by BasketNews. The penalty is said to be split into two parts: one connected to alleged Financial Fair Play breaches and another related to exceeding the player salary limit.
According to the report, the first fine was issued about two weeks ago and concerns owner Ofer Yannay’s investments allegedly going beyond the level allowed relative to club revenue. The second fine is reportedly linked to the cost of a deep roster, in a season where Hapoel have been listed among the biggest spenders in the competition, with an estimated payroll of around €19.5-20 million.
The matter is not considered closed by the club. In the statement quoted by YNET via BasketNews, Hapoel say the reviewed figures do not fully reflect the exceptional circumstances created by the war and describe ongoing dialogue with EuroLeague financial departments in the hope of reaching an understanding or receiving leniency. At this stage, I have not found a direct official EuroLeague statement publicly confirming those exact fine amounts.
