One of the most unusual invitations of the summer has come from Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv. Club owner Ofer Yannay has formally invited NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman to Israel to conduct a specialized rebounding clinic for the team’s players.
In a public letter published by Sport5, Yannay admitted that despite investing heavily to build a EuroLeague-caliber roster, one issue remains unresolved.
“We still have to get more rebounds. Many years ago, I read your story about how you turned rebounding into an exact science. I was fascinated by the way you studied shot angles, the spin of the ball and where it would bounce.”
That admiration led Yannay to make an unusual proposal.
“Instead of talking about rebounding, why not invite the person who turned it into an art? It would be an honor to welcome you to Tel Aviv as my personal guest and as a guest of Hapoel Tel Aviv.”
The offer includes a $100,000 appearance fee, business-class flights, luxury hotel accommodations for Rodman and up to three guests, and a three-day program featuring an on-court clinic with the team, a media interview, a dinner with club representatives and a guided tour of Tel Aviv’s nightlife.
Beyond helping the team improve on the glass, the club also plans to use content from Rodman’s visit for its global marketing and promotional campaigns.
Yannay ended his message with a personal appeal to the five-time NBA champion.
“I can promise you one thing: you will receive a lot of love here from me, our club and especially our passionate fans.”
He also referenced Israel’s recent hardships.
“Israel has gone through very difficult years because of the war. Now, more than ever, it’s a great time to come, bring joy, share your experience and be with us.”
