New details have emerged from the investigation shaking Greek basketball, with police saying a total of €931,463 was seized during searches at the homes of the six people arrested. According to SPORT24, €820,000 was found at one referee’s home in Pieria, another €102,000 at a second referee’s residence and more than €8,000 at the home of Greek federation president Vangelis Liolios.
Greek police also seized 14 mobile phones, six laptops, 22 USB storage devices, two tablets, memory cards, a hard drive and other material. Three Olympiacos shirts and additional team memorabilia were also reportedly found at the home of the female referee involved in the case.
The investigation concerns alleged improper interference aimed at influencing the course, nature or result of basketball games connected to domestic or international betting competitions. SPORT24 also reports that Greece’s anti-money laundering authority has been informed to examine whether any alleged proceeds may have been laundered through a coffee business chain linked to Liolios and a close associate. These remain investigative allegations that have yet to be established in court.
