During the Italbasket press conference in Milan, National Team Coordinator Gigi Datome officially announced Donte DiVincenzo’s absence: “Donte DiVincenzo has suffered a recurrence of a physical problem. Specialists are talking about weeks of rest and recovery, so he won’t be available in time.
We thank the highest authorities of the State for their sensitivity, as well as CONI. We are here to say all this. We took a week to decide. Darius Thompson has made himself available, he will join us in Trieste and will be part of the team.
We are sorry for him and for us, we have done everything possible. We are drawing a line and looking ahead. He remains available for future competitions.
On the type of injury: ‘On 21 July, we received clearance from the franchise. Donte was resuming training, but between 22 and 23 July, he felt discomfort in his big toe, which had already cost him a month out this season. We set a deadline yesterday, and according to doctors and specialists, we were talking about three to four months of therapy, so it wasn’t possible. He sent the video to show that we were on the same page. That’s how it went.”
