Georgia produced one of the biggest wins of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers, edging Spain 91-89 after overtime in Tbilisi. The hosts trailed by as many as 22 points in the third quarter, with Spain in control at 42-64.
From there, Georgia mounted a remarkable comeback, tying the game late in regulation and carrying the momentum into overtime. Tornike Shengelia delivered a monster performance with 37 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals and a 37 efficiency rating in more than 44 minutes.
Marcquise Reed was just as important, adding 32 points and 7 assists while hitting key shots down the stretch. Spain got 19 points and 8 rebounds from Willy Hernangomez, but Alvaro Cardenas missed the potential game-winning three at the buzzer. Georgia closed the First Round with a statement win; Spain, already qualified, suffered their first loss and finished Group A at 5-1.
