Just days before the start of his journey with Baskonia, Paolo Galbiati shared his first impressions as the club’s new head coach, expressing enthusiasm and determination as he prepares to face this challenge in one of European basketball’s most iconic settings.
“I’m very excited and proud to sit on such a prestigious bench. It’s a dream come true,” Galbiati said, recalling how his passion for basketball began: “I started playing when I was eleven, when my brother and father used to watch games on TV. At that time, the EuroLeague was already very important in Vitoria, and I dreamed of all this.”
The new Baskonia coach has clear goals in mind:
“My biggest challenge is to give everything on the court and make Baskonia fans happy. With humility, we’ll compete in two prestigious competitions like the EuroLeague and the Liga Endesa, full of both individual and collective goals. The aim is to win games, reach the playoffs, and, why not, lift a trophy.”
Galbiati also emphasized the importance of daily work and the core values that have always defined the club:
“For me, the most important thing is to improve every day, to dream but keep my feet on the ground, and to be the best version of myself. What I ask from the bottom of my heart is passion and respect. Those values are non-negotiable.”
The Italian coach also had warm words for the city and its fans after experiencing Vitoria’s summer festivities up close:
“It was incredible to see so many people enjoying themselves together. The atmosphere, the lights, the energy… it was a shock for me. I can’t wait to feel that again with the Buesa Arena packed and pushing us forward.”
With humility and ambition, Galbiati is ready to embrace this new chapter on the Baskonia bench, convinced that “this is the best job in the world” and determined to give his all to lead the team toward success in the upcoming season.
