Orlando Magic wing Franz Wagner contributed 10 points to Germany’s winning debut in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 against Japan. Unfortunately, his performance was cut short before the end due to an ankle sprain.

The injury occurred a little over five minutes before the end of the game, with Germany leading 75-53. After a mid-air collision with a Japanese player, Wagner landed awkwardly on his left ankle.

“It looks like a slight sprain to the ankle,” commented Germany’s head coach, Gordon Herbert, in the post-game conference. “We’ll know more after the MRI.”
