Francesco Totti has spoken about his new role as a consultant for Maxima Roma, making it clear that his decision to join the basketball project does not represent a break with his beloved AS Roma.
Speaking to Rai, the former Roma captain explained that his involvement with Maxima is simply a new step in his career and an opportunity to embrace a different project.
“It wasn’t revenge. I simply chose a different project”
Totti dismissed any suggestion that his move into basketball was motivated by a desire to get back at Roma.
“There is no revenge. I simply took another step and chose a different project.”
Despite his new role with Maxima, Totti stressed that his connection with AS Roma remains as strong as ever.
“Roma will always be magical for me. They are the magical ones, we are Maxima. But I will never abandon Roma. That is my first skin.”
“I will celebrate the centenary with my fans”
Totti was also asked about the upcoming centenary celebrations for AS Roma and made it clear that he intends to share the occasion with the club’s supporters.
“I will have the time and the opportunity to celebrate with my fans. I have to celebrate with them, because what they have given me, nobody else has ever given me. I will do some things, that’s for sure.”
Totti’s dream for Maxima Roma
The former Italy international also revealed a particularly ambitious goal for his new basketball adventure: bringing together supporters from both sides of Rome.
“I hope I can bring both Roma fans and Lazio fans to watch Maxima.”
A dream that would see Maxima Roma become a meeting point for basketball fans across the capital, regardless of their football allegiance.
