In an official note, Italian Basketball Federation president Gianni Petrucci has commented Virtus Bologna’s situation regarding the upcoming EuroCup match in Istanbul against Darussafaka, at risk after Turkey’s decision to block all flights from and to Italy.
Petrucci has expressed his “personal disdain and the one of the entire basketball movement for the unpleasant (Kafkaesque) situation seeing Virtus Bologna as an involuntary protagonist, prevented from playing on Wednesday night against Darussafaka”.
Petrucci also said that he wonders “what responsibility can be placed on the Italian club and strongly asks all those involved to adopt any measure aimed at safeguarding the founding values of basketball, sport and civil coexistence”.
