In the fourth game of the Round of 16, the upset is complete! In a thrilling showdown at Arena Riga, Finland stunned Serbia and secured a spot in the quarter-finals, where they will face the winner of the match between France and Georgia.
The Scandinavian team came out firing, but Pesic’s men didn’t back down, turning the game into a high-intensity battle with an incredible finish that rewarded Markkanen and his teammates.
The Jazz forward was brilliant, but not the only architect of the victory: four Finnish players scored in double figures, with Valtonen stepping up as the unexpected hero—scoring 8 points in the final possessions (a three-pointer, a tip-in, and another three-pointer) to knock out Pesic’s team, despite Jokic’s 33-point performance.
Finland returns to the quarterfinals, just like in 2022. For Serbia—once again among the favorites—it’s another nightmare, eliminated in the first round of the knockout stage, just like in Berlin against Italy three years ago.
