FIBA World Ranking: France moves onto the podium, Türkiye and Finland climb

Following the fourth window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, USA and Germany remain first and second. France moves ahead of Serbia to take third place.

The conclusion of the fourth window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers brought several changes to the Top 10 of the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike.

The USA and Germany won both of their games and remain in first and second place respectively. France moved onto the podium, edging past Serbia by a very narrow margin.

Both European teams recorded two wins last week, but France moved ahead after defeating slightly stronger opposition.

Australia closes in on Spain

Australia, which remains undefeated in the Asian Qualifiers, came close to reclaiming sixth place from Spain, which moved into that position following the third window in July.

Türkiye makes the biggest move in the Top 10

Türkiye is the biggest climber in the Top 10. The first team to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, Türkiye climbed two spots to ninth, moving within touching distance of Argentina, which sits eighth.

Finland was the other team to move up in the Top 20, thanks to a convincing road win against Estonia and Puerto Rico’s two defeats in the Americas Qualifiers.

Mexico climbs to 26th

Mexico is the highest-ranked team to move up in the Americas. Two wins against Colombia and, most notably, Brazil lifted Mexico two places to 26th.

The victory over Brazil was particularly significant, as the South American team was ranked in the Top 10 at the time.

Angola makes a strong move in Africa

In the African Qualifiers, Angola enjoyed a strong window, picking up wins against Côte d’Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Angola made the biggest jump among the Top 80 teams. African teams played three games during this window, giving them more opportunities to earn ranking points.

Kuwait, Malaysia and Hong Kong climb eight spots

The biggest overall climbers came from the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers.

Kuwait, Malaysia and Hong Kong, China all gained eight places. The event gave lower-ranked teams an opportunity to earn significant ranking points compared with their previous totals.

Five new teams also joined the ranking with this update: the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, following the FIBA Micronesian Cup 2026, and Kyrgyzstan, Maldives and Nepal, following the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers.

The FIBA World Ranking Men now features 159 teams.

FIBA introduces a second Margin of Victory tier

The latest update also introduces a second tier for the Margin of Victory Factor.

Teams will continue to receive a bonus for winning by 15 points or more. However, victories by 30 points or more will now result in a higher multiplier for Game Rating Points, better reflecting the team’s performance on the court.
