FC Barcelona and American player Josh Nebo, who holds a Slovenian passport, have reached a contractual agreement that will keep them together until June 30, 2029. The Palau Blaugrana crowd will be able to enjoy, for at least the next three seasons, a 2.06-meter center who will bring physicality in the paint with dunks and rebounding. He also adds EuroLeague experience, where he has averaged 9.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and a 13.7 performance index rating in 136 games with Zalgiris, Maccabi and Milan, from where he joins Barça after recently winning the Italian League title.
Born in Texas on July 19, 1997, he arrives at Barcelona just before turning 29 with the determination to prove his high level of play. “I am very excited to start this new chapter. I came here to win. I want to fight for titles in both the ACB League and the EuroLeague. That is my goal,” he told the Club’s media after completing his medical examination.
“When I think about this club, the first thing that comes to my mind is its winning culture. Every year it fights to reach the Playoffs, competing to make the Final Four. I believe I can bring defense, rebounding, finishing ability, leadership and character. I hope the fans will be amazing, that they will support us with great passion and be excited. I can’t wait to play in front of them.”
Arrival in Israel
After developing through the U.S. college system, he decided to move to the Old Continent in 2020. At the age of 23, he made his debut in the Israeli League with Hapoel Eilat. In 26 games during the 2020-21 season, he averaged 13.6 points and an impressive 10 rebounds per game (leading the league), along with a 21.8 performance index rating.
EuroLeague debut and return to Israel
This first experience earned him a move to Zalgiris Kaunas for the 2021-22 season. In Kaunas, he won the Lithuanian Cup and made his EuroLeague debut, averaging 8.7 points and 6.2 rebounds.
His strong performances earned him a transfer to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Back in Israel, he won two Israeli League titles while leading the competition in two-point field goal percentage (over 70%). He also produced his best EuroLeague season in 2023-24, averaging 11.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. In fact, he finished as the competition’s leading rebounder.
Two seasons in Italy
In the summer of 2024, he moved to Milan, where he played a key role in winning the Italian Cup and the Italian League during the 2025-26 season. He also won the Italian Super Cup in both 2024 and 2025. With Milan, he averaged 10.1 points and 5.4 rebounds in the most recent EuroLeague season. He leaves Italy with overall averages of 10 points, 7 rebounds and a 14.8 performance index rating, after recording 10 points and 8 rebounds in the final game of the championship series against Venezia.
Slovenian passport since 2024
Nebo has held a Slovenian passport since June 2024, when he was granted Slovenian citizenship. He made his debut for the national team and took part in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Over the three games, he averaged 16.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and a 21.7 performance index rating in 30 minutes per game.
