Evan Mobley drops career-high 41 points in Cavs’ win over Hornets

Cavs have NBA's best record with 21 wins in 24 games

Evan Mobley was dominant in the Cleveland Cavs’ win over the Charlotte Hornets, the No. 21 in 24 games.

The power forward selected at No. 3 in the 2021 NBA Draft improved his career-high to 41 points (23 in the first quarter alone with 5 of 5 from long range. Mobley finished the game with 16/23 from the field and 6/8 from three.

The growth of his jump shot from long-range could be the real X Factor for the Ohio team, and in fact Coach Atkinson always encourages him to use the jumper without any fear.

“You know, we’ve been really pushing him to shoot the three, obviously, because we know he’s a heck of a shooter,” said Atkinson, who improved to 21-3 in his first season as Cavs coach. “I just love how aggressive he was from the three-point line. He even took a bad one or two, but it’s like, go ahead, like have the freedom to take a bad one because we want him to be aggressive. He’s got a beautiful shot, love his confidence. He was awesome today.”

Mobley, who also grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked 3 opponents’ shots, this year is putting together averages of 18.9 points (56 % FG, 40 % 3P, 79 % FT), 9.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 blocks.
