EuroLeague is reportedly considering entering the ABA League’s ownership structure, with the long-term goal of becoming its majority owner. According to SportKlub, the matter was a key topic at Friday’s meeting between EuroLeague leadership and representatives of the clubs that formally own the regional competition.
The report states that EuroLeague intends to acquire a stake in the near future, although discussions remain at an early stage and have yet to develop into formal negotiations.
Representatives from Dubai Basketball and U-BT Cluj-Napoca also attended the meeting, despite neither club being part of the ABA League’s ownership group.
SportKlub reports that the potential arrival of NBA Europe is one of the main reasons behind EuroLeague’s plans to strengthen its position in European basketball. Cooperation between the two organizations has also reportedly increased at an administrative level, with former EuroLeague personnel taking on prominent roles within the ABA League.
