EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas did not rule out suspending Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv due to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict

EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas did not rule out suspending Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv due to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. “It’s a tough question, and we always try to avoid political ones,” he admitted at a press conference in Dubai.

Motiejunas stressed that EuroLeague will continue monitoring the situation while looking at decisions from other sports bodies: “With UEFA considering suspending Israel, of course, it matters. It doesn’t mean we’ll follow immediately, but once others react, we’ll talk to the clubs.”

“The most important thing is the safety of the teams, the players, and the fans,” Motiejunas concluded, noting Maccabi’s historic role in EuroLeague and Hapoel’s debut after winning last year’s EuroCup.
