Euroleague Basketball and UEBO renew collective agreement

Euroleague Basketball and the Union of Euroleague Basketball Officials (UEBO) have officially signed the renewal of their collective agreement.

Euroleague Basketball and the Union of Euroleague Basketball Officials (UEBO) have officially signed the renewal of their collective agreement, further strengthening their long-term collaboration and commitment to the continued development of officiating in European basketball.

The agreement was signed at Euroleague Basketball Headquarters by Euroleague Basketball CEO Chus Bueno and UEBO President Sreten Radovic, with Seffi Shemesh, a member of the UEBO Board, also attending the meeting alongside representatives from Euroleague Basketball. The renewed agreement will remain in force through the end of the 2028-29 season.

The renewal follows ongoing discussions between Euroleague Basketball and UEBO aimed at ensuring that the framework governing their relationship continues to evolve in line with the development of the competitions, the role of officials and the latest advances in officiating.

The agreement establishes a consistent framework for the relationship between Euroleague Basketball and its officials, defining the principles, working conditions and mutual commitments that support referees throughout the EuroLeague and BKT EuroCup seasons.

“Referees are a fundamental part of the Euroleague Basketball ecosystem, and our relationship with UEBO is essential to ensuring that officiating continues to evolve alongside our competitions,” said Euroleague Basketball CEO, Chus Bueno. “This renewed agreement reflects our commitment to maintaining an open and constructive dialogue with our officials and to providing them with the professional framework, resources and technology they need to perform at the highest level.”

UEBO President Sreten Radovic said: “The renewal of this agreement is an important step in the continued development of the relationship between UEBO and Euroleague Basketball. It provides stability and a clear framework for our officials while allowing us to continue working together on the evolution of officiating, working conditions and the tools available to referees. We appreciate the constructive dialogue that has accompanied the negotiations and look forward to continuing this collaboration.”

The first collective agreement between Euroleague Basketball and UEBO was signed in 2019 and subsequently renewed in 2023. Since its establishment, the agreement has provided a framework covering the working conditions of officials, the continuous improvement of officiating processes and the implementation of new technologies and tools designed to support referees in their work.

Together with the existing EuroLeague Framework Agreement with the EuroLeague Players Association (ELPA) and the agreement recently signed with the EuroLeague Head Coaches Board (EHCB), the agreement with UEBO further strengthens the alignment between Euroleague Basketball and its key sporting stakeholders, including players, head coaches and officials, as the League enters its next phase of development.
