Ettore Messina to be back as head coach of Italy’s National Team?

Messina ready for third experience as head coach of Italbasket?

Ettore Messina is expected to become head coach of Italy’s National Team after OQT in Belgrade and Olympics (if Italy qualifies).

Meo Sacchetti, the actual head coach of Italbasket, will leave his role after the tournament in Belgrade scheduled for June and after Tokyo if Italy makes it.

Messina would be at his third stint as head coach of Italbasket. He recently coached Italy’s NT at OQT in Turin in 2016 and at Eurobasket 2017 reaching the quarterfinals.

Messina is also the head coach of Olimpia Milano since the summer of 2019.

Recently FIP changed the staff of coach of Sacchetti hiring Riccardo Fois, Paolo Galbiati and Piero Bucchi as assistants.

If Messina declines the proposal of Italian Basketball Federation, Walter De Raffaele of Reyer Venezia will be the head coach.

The idea of FIP is to have a new coach for Eurobasket 2022 when Italy will host one group in Milano.

The news has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
