Coach Ertugrul Erdogan announced that he opted to stay with Galatasaray, despite Zalgiris Kaunas’ interest

Coach Ertugrul Erdogan announced that he opted to stay with Galatasaray, despite Zalgiris Kaunas’ interest.

Erdogan spoke with Zalgiris president and GM Paulius Motiejunas in the last week, but there was never traction on reaching a contract agreement as the days wore on. Turkish coach has emerged as the frontrunner for Zalgiris head coaching post, along with Salt Lake City Stars Head Coach Martin Schiller, as stated by the Lithuanian media.

Erdogan announced his decision by a written statement:

“Many thanks to Zalgiris president Paulius Motiejunas, who sees me as a head coach candidate for such a prestigious Euroleague club, Zalgiris. It was an honour. But from now on, I won’t pursue Zalgiris coaching job. I’m staying at Galatasaray.”

Erdogan has been with the Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray since the 2018 summer.
