The Clippers’ new home kicked off the festivities with the tournament dedicated to the league’s up-and-coming talent. Team Vince (named after Vince Carter) claimed the title, prevailing in a final that went right down to the wire.
In the first semifinal, Team Vince defeated Team T-Mac 41-36; Niederhäuser’s 11 points weren’t enough to keep his squad afloat. In the other bracket, Team Melo punched their ticket to the final by taking down Team Austin 40-34.
The final proved to be a tense 12-minute showdown featuring constant lead changes. Team Melo jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but dunks from Buzelis and Edgecombe quickly put Team Vince back in the mix. Threes from Clingan and Harper tried to build a cushion (4-9), but Dëmin and Buzelis responded to restore the balance. After a go-ahead bucket by Fears (15-17), the game turned into a point-for-point war of nerves.
Ultimately, it was the Philadelphia 76ers’ Edgecombe who decided the match, remaining ice-cold at the stripe to sink two free throws for the final 25-24 victory.
