Dubai Basketball is preparing to make its EuroLeague debut next season, which will make it the team that travels the furthest in the competition. However, enthusiasm within the club is high. In an interview with BH Basket, the Emirati club’s manager, Dejan Kamenjasevic, revealed the budget available for next season, among other things.
Kamenjasevic said: “Dubai is the team that will travel the most of any sports franchise in the world. We will be flying for 23 days over the course of two and a half months. Seven players remain from last season, and so far we have signed eight new ones. We just need one more player to complete our roster of 16 for the new season, which is special because we are playing in the EuroLeague. Our goal is to be competitive. It will be much more challenging than in the ABA League. Last season, many did not believe in us, yet we finished as one of the best teams in the league. Our vision for the EuroLeague is long-term: we want to improve season by season, led by our excellent coach, Jurica Golemac, and our technical staff: Davor Matković, Velibor Negovanović and Nenad Banjanin”.
Regarding the budget: “The budget is €16 million, the eleventh largest in the Euroleague. However, it is always Dubai that causes problems, not the most expensive teams. Last season, our budget was only €4 million. Yet we are back at the top of the table. We are the only team in the Euroleague Cup to publicly declare our budget and salaries”.
