“I hate when people are like, ‘Oh man, it’s an honor to play on Christmas Day.’ People should shut up,” Green said. “Like, no — you should shut up.”

Over his 14-year NBA career, Draymond Green has become a familiar presence on Christmas Day, having played in 11 games on the league’s most high-profile holiday slate. While acknowledging the prestige that comes with those matchups, the four-time NBA champion made it clear that the experience is far from entirely positive.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, the Golden State Warriors star did not hold back when describing the downside of playing on Christmas.

“To play on a day where everybody’s watching, it’s incredible. All of those things are great,” Green said. “But two things can be true at once: playing on Christmas Day also f*cking sucks.”

Green explained that the issue goes beyond basketball, touching on the emotional toll of missing out on time with loved ones.

“The reason it sucks is, number one, it can affect your mood,” he continued. “Number two, we are human beings and just like everyone else, enjoy Christmas Day with our families. That kinda gets messed up for us.”

While fans celebrate at home or travel with their families, players are often locked into game-day routines, missing moments they can never get back.

“They’re in their homes or on vacation with their families, making memories. We don’t get that opportunity,” Green added. He also pushed back against the narrative that players should feel nothing but gratitude for the assignment.

“I hate when people are like, ‘Oh man, it’s an honor to play on Christmas Day.’ People should shut up,” Green said. “Like, no — you should shut up.”
