Donovan Mitchell on Cavs’ early exit: “We let the city down, but we’ll be back”

After Cleveland’s stunning 4-1 loss to Indiana, Donovan Mitchell expresses his heartbreak and vows to return stronger

The Cleveland Cavaliers, despite a 64-win season, were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Semis by the Indiana Pacers. “I still don’t want to believe it,” said Donovan Mitchell, visibly shaken after Game 5.

Mitchell averaged 34.2 points in the series, even while playing through an ankle injury. “I love that arena. We lost all three at home. We let the city down,” he admitted. Cleveland blew a 19-point lead in Game 5 and lost its first back-to-back home games all season.

Coach Kenny Atkinson recognized progress but said the team fell short physically. Mitchell, undeterred, showed faith in his teammates: “We’re a good team. It didn’t show in five games. But we’ll be back.”
