Dimitris Itoudis has once again expressed his support for a 30-team EuroLeague. The Greek coach and former EuroLeague champion spoke to Mozzartsport about the competition’s future, suggesting that the current expansion could be only an intermediate step.
“I think we are going in the direction where we will have 24 teams, maybe we will reach 26 and, in the future, God willing, the 30 clubs that I dream of,” Itoudis said.
The coach also believes the league could eventually adopt conferences or groups before reaching the playoffs. Among the potential candidates for future expansion, he mentioned PAOK, Aris, Roma and Hapoel Tel Aviv, while also hoping that Russian teams will eventually return to the competition.
According to Itoudis, further expansion would benefit European basketball as a whole: “More teams means more players, more coaches, more officials. I think we should grow.”
