The owner of Panathinaikos launched a furious attack against local authorities and EuroLeague management following the problems and chaos experienced by fans during the Final Four.

Following the incidents that took place around the arena during the EuroLeague Final Four, Dimitris Giannakopoulos publicly criticized both the police and EuroLeague, accusing them of double standards and poor crowd management.

“Fifteen days ago, under the excuse that some extra people were trying to enter the arena during a Panathinaikos B.C. game, you used tear gas — you actually used tear gas. And yesterday, while you saw what was happening, while you knew identity checks were not being carried out because there were too many people, you allowed people to enter and let all these consequences happen.

No matter how much you call yourselves police, no matter how much you call yourselves authorities, I expect and demand a huge apology to the Panathinaikos fans and to the supporters who paid to come and watch the game.

And to EuroLeague — I’ll say this in Greek, I’m sure you have people who can translate it. If all this had happened at a Panathinaikos game, you would have punished us, fined us millions, suspended us, and I would probably not even be allowed inside an arena ever again.

Now that all this happened under your responsibility, because we entrusted the arena to you, what the hell are you going to do? What the hell are you going to do? Is Giannakopoulos going to be blamed once again? Are you going to punish me? Come on.

You should consider yourselves lucky you found me calm today.”
