The NBA has fined Desmond Bane $35,000 for throwing the game ball with force at OG Anunoby “in an unsportsmanlike manner” during Magic–Knicks on Sunday.
The incident happened in the fourth quarter with the Magic down 91-80, and Bane was hit with a technical foul.
Bane had clearly secured the ball and wasn’t close to going out of bounds, so this wasn’t the usual play of bouncing it off a defender to avoid a turnover.
Words were exchanged and there was some minor shoving, but the league stopped short of issuing a suspension.
Anunoby brushed it off afterward: “I was confused at first, then it was funny. I like Desmond… he’s a good dude,” he said, joking that he “should have caught it.”
The Knicks won 106-100, with Anunoby posting 21 points and 7 boards, while Bane finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, plus the costly fine.
